Extend the lifespan of your blooms

Updated: Mar 15

Flowers have a magical way of brightening up any space, but how do you ensure they stay vibrant and beautiful for as long as possible? Follow these simple tips to extend the lifespan of your blooms and enjoy them for weeks to come!

  1. Trim The Stems: Upon receiving your flowers, the first step to prolonging their freshness is to trim about 1 cm off the bottom stem at a diagonal angle. This helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently by creating a fresh cut, removing any blockages that may have formed.

  2. Cold Water: Place your freshly trimmed flowers in a vase with cold water. Cold water helps slow down the aging process of the flowers by reducing the growth of bacteria and slow down the rate of water loss through the stems. Additionally , cold water can help to keep the flowers crisp and hydrated for a longer period.

  3. Avoid Direct Sunlight: While it may be tempting to display your beautiful flowers in a sunny spot, direct sunlight can actually cause them to wilt and fade faster. Instead, choose a location away from direct sunlight and heat sources to help preserve the freshness of your blooms.

  4. Keep In A Cooler Place: To further prolong the lifespan of your flowers, consider placing them in a cooler area in your home. Heat can accelerate the wilting process, so keeping your flowers in a cool environment can help them stay fresh for much longer. Tip- If you can't find a space to keep them cool you can place them outside at night and bring them inside to enjoy during the day. Although that's not ideal it will definitely help extend the life of your flowers.

  5. Change The Water Regularly: Its important to change the water every 2-4 days to prevent bacteria and maintain water quality. When changing the water, also trim the stems again to ensure they can continue to absorb water effectively.

  6. Remove Dying Flowers: As flowers begin to fade a wilt, it's essential to remove them from the arrangement promptly. Dying flowers release ethylene gas, which can accelerate the aging process of surrounding blooms and lead to bacterial growth in the water. By removing fading flowers, you can prevent the of infection and help your blooms stay fresh longer.
